Formal Director General of GES Appealed to Education Ministry to Swift to Old Academic Calendar for good

Charles Aheto Tsegah, the formal Director General of Ghana Education Service under the Ministry of Education has vehemently appealed to the current Director General ( Dr. Eric Nkansa) and the Minister of Education (Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum) to collaboratively peep through the porose doors of the second cycle institutions as a matter of urgency to revamp the worse image before it’s display.

He sorted out that, the current new academic calendar is full of confusion and distraction. It does not favour the students neither does it favour the teachers. It rather disenfranchised academic work leaving the learners in a state of exacerbation.

Mr. Aheto Tsegah is calling the key leaders of Education Ministry as well as GES to aid revert and curtail the problem. He added that, putting the current academic calendar into professional scrutiny, one will realized that, the total contact hours have been drastically reduced. This is synonymous to running away from malaria to embrace epilepsy. As a results tutors are incapacitated to complete their syllabus with the learners let alone to revise thoroughly with them.

To him, this is rather causing more harm than good to our education. He emphasized that, students spend too much time in the house and, and very little time at school which is not very healthy. It is surprising that, students can spend only one month in school and go home to spend two or more months there.

He gave a senario that, the second years who are at home now came to school on 10th January and returned on 17th February. Bisecting this, one will realize that serious teaching occured for only two weeks. He gave an example that the first week of reopening is a week of students arrival hence teaching can not occur. Most students will even report on the second week. If the second week is used for revising previous examination papers with the students, the teacher will end up using two weeks for serious academic work. This means Week three and four will be used for teaching and learning whiles week five stands independently for Assessement and students break.

This is a jocular form of reforms which needs second taught. He sees it as a very sorry story that needs intervention
