Illegal mining through Changfang Operation pollutes River Offin
Illegal mining through Changfang Operation has brought shame to Offin River.
The military on their operations at Mankranso boarders seized and destroyed alot number of these changfang machines use for mining illegally on the boarders of the Offin river
The chief of the area was interviewed on his negligence towards the destruction of the offin river by these galamse operators.
The chief was asked whether we was aware of the illegal mining ongoing around The Offin river and the extend of its consequences on the river.
He replied that, even though he is partially aware of the operations, he is totally dumbfounded about the nature of pollution it has caused to The Offin river by the galamse operators.
The Officer of the military mentioned that, they have arrested eight people among the galamse operators currently at their custody.
The officer said, they are going to have a cabenit meeting on how to deal with the issue professionally. Disciplinary actions would surely taken to halt the situation, he promised.
One lecturer and a political scientist has expressed his disheartening views on this illegal mining and its impact on Ghanaian economy.
He stated confidently that, government has no interest in taking drastic measures to band illegal mining.
The negative impact of this activities alone should have prompted government to curtail this mimicking trash.
Our water bodies including all the aquatic organisms are periodically destroyed by this event.
He rose a hot debate that, the machines used for the operations are so large that, a child in those communities can easily point to where they are operating hence, we can easily identify them and make them face the law.
