WAEC Explained The Kind of Grading System Adopted For Analysing BECE Results.

The Head of Legal Department for WAEC Explained The Kind of Grading System Adopted For Analysing BECE Results in this twenty first century.

Rev. Victor Brew who happens to be the Head of The Legal Department for West African Examinations Council vividly illustrated the illusionary gymnastics or criteria they as a body use to generically explain results.

Rev. Victor explained the BECE Results as follows:

1) The over all performance of students across the country depict or deduce the kind of grades or results for each year group.

2) WAEC has a targeted range of 4% out of the best performance compiled in each year’s group. The grading is therefore deduce from this 4% best across the entire country.

3) A concrete example given was that, if the best performance of candidates in a particular local School ranges from 80% to 85%, and the most privileged or vibrant schools have their best candidates scoring 98% and 99%, it is then possible that after striking the 14% nation wide, grade one will be around 90%.

4) In this case, the best candidates of local schools scoring 80% to 85% range will be  getting grade two (2)

5) In the above mentioned circumstances, student scoring from 76% to 79% will be graded as aggregate Three (3) and 70% to 75% will be given grade four (4).

Rev. Victor emphasized that, getting 84% does not automatically grant you grade “1” if your competitors are scoring far higher than that.
Rev. Victor added that, candidates should be aware that they are competing with other students across the country.

The scores of local schools best performing candidates will be the scores for an average students in the city schools.

This strategy means that, students from “Schools of Shame” must work extra harder to fall within the average score of that of “Schools of Fame”

West African Examinations Council through the collaborative efforts of government of Ghana, Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service adopted this kind of grading system to improve the quality and standards of education in the country! exclaimed the head of legal Department of WAEC.

Rev. Victor had this discussion with Roselyn Felli on prime morning Breakfast, on Monday, 30th January 2023. He said, this simply means that the failure of the students comes from the students themselves. WAEC Grading System has come to Stay and students failure is not attributed to WAEC but their own laziness.

He encouraged parents to force their wards to learn since this era of technological advancement there are alot of distractions. Students are no more learning as it úsed to be, he added.
