Forgetfulness
This usually occurs when you find it difficult to recall a learnt information after a period of time. The human memory is extremely complex and can adapt to different occurrences.
The memory is active rather than passive.
This means that, your memory is both intensive and extensive. It can record information of whatever kind covering specific and non- specific ones. For example, your memory can actively contain several million kinds of information of different sort; categories and degrees.
Past memories
Sometimes, some previous unpleasant event that happened to you in the past or to a relative or friend may interfere or force you to shift focus from what you are learning, thereby making you to forget what you learn.
Memory accuracy depends on how we encode material. This means that, You may forget or remember information depending on how your memory encoded it. You have to think about the meaning of whatever you learnt rather than just mere reading about the topic.
Indeed, without thinking about the meaning of whatever you read, you will forget it outright. You must think about it well before you can also remember it accurately.
The problem with many students is that, they tend to glance through the book without making efforts to encode it properly into the long term memory. In fact this explains why forgetfulness is always on the increase with such students. most students
Present memories
Present memories can also force you to forget what you learnt some few minutes ago. For example, let’s say you read something about cross pollination in science, then after that, you took a book to read a different topic.
In this case, it is obvious that, what you are currently learning would then occupy your memory and cause you to forget what you learnt in science. This means that, the definition of Cross pollination was not pushed into the long term memory.
Retrieval failure can also make you to forget what you learnt. Memory accuracy depends upon how we measure retrieval or recalling of the information read.
This means that, your memory will not fail you if you store the information read in a manner that you want to remember or recall it.
Thus, if your purpose is to retrieve the information exactly without fail, then, you need to think about the storage of the information with the mind of retrieving it.
For instance, let’s say that, you want to recall information learnt previously from your memory and your memory failed to capture the exact clues that you used to store the information,it is certain that, you can forget that information.
It is just like forgetting the title name you used to store some important document on your computer, in this case you can not retrieve the information again unless you are able to recall or remember the name you gave to save the particular document.
Lack of regular learning: Some students are eager to learn only during exams time. This world not help you to read effectively before a particular paper is written and as a result forgetfulness would set in.
It is very good to make it a habit to learn everyday, rather than to wait till only when extermination is nearer.
Lack of organization: If you fail to organize the information well in your memory, you will probably forget it all.
Daydreaming/absent mindedness: If your mind is not fixed on what you are learning, you would definitely forget it.
Lack of understanding:If you do not understand what you learnt, it is possible that you can easily forget it.
Lack of motivation: If nothing urges or encourages you to learn, and you have no aim learning, you may not be able to learn well. Thus, forgetfulness becomes extremely high.
Lack of interest: psychologically, your brain would not be able to recall precisely, information that is not of interest to you.
