Why Won’t WAEC mark the 2023 BECE and WASSCE on time if Government Did not Pay the Debt Owned to him by WAEC.
It is very sad and hurtic to be notified that the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination as well as WASSCE conducted across all the sixteen regions in Ghana is yet to be marked.
It has been confirmed that no ink has been used on any of the papers yet.
The prominent reason why West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC), Ghana chapter has delayed the Commencement of the 2023 BECE marking is as a result of what transpired last year.
One can bear with me that WAEC as a body is prompt and smart when it comes to paying of it’s examiners and Assistant Examiners.
According to The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Clement Apaak, government is owning WAEC a sizable Amount of GHC55 Million. Per the amount owned to government, government was able to settle GHC10.5 Million remaining GHC 70 million.
In view of that it is difficult and almost impossible for WAEC to facilitate the marking and grading of the just ended BECE.
He added that, last year for instance, the payment of examiners, Assistant Examiners and the entire employees of WAEC Examination body delayed so much so bad that, they put injunction on the release of the 2022 results.
Some Examiners were propelled to plan of suing Government before payment were made. As a drastic step to stop or eliminate what manifested last year, WAEC demands full settlement of Arrears amicably before Coodination and marking exercises will start.
However, after the establishment of this banter between WAEC and Government, it was agreed on that the Coodination and Conference marking of the 2023 BECE will official start on Wednesday 04 October, 2023.
As for the releasing date for this Examination, it is still on suspension.
Some people claimed that the results will be released in January for the candidates to go to school in February. However, this information is not an official information.

One should note that, BECE marking needs to end before WASSE marking commences since the Examiners marking the BECE are same people marking the WASSE.
