Dr. Vicent Atiko, the head master of Adidome Senior High School emphasized that, the patronage of education in the community is problematic. In view of this students who get pregnant easily fall out and after delivery no attempt is made by their parents to roll them back in school.
He said they kept on battling with the social canker but all their efforts fell into deaf ears. He added that, as a school they can only do their magic when the students are on campus. They have instituted strict and workable strategies to help put a stop to this unpleasant legacy but despite all the efforts, the problem still persist.
They have invited series of unilateral and multilateral groups to provide extensive education to the students. As a school they have formed series of clubs to help address the pregnant issue. consequently they have high security system preventing students to cross the borders of the school. Students are monitored very well to the extend that even in critical situations like sickness which demands students should go home, the school have to pre inform parents before permission is granted to such students.
The problem is that when these students return home they have their freedom and start visiting clubs and start misconducting themselves. They usually carry the pregnancies from home to school.
The head master was asked the measures put in place to protect pregnant mothers on campus! In response to that, he said, what they do is to identify such students and take them through guidance and counseling section. They give them emotional encouragement not to stop schooling.
In addition to that, the school prefects are educated to assist those girls in their activities. Even if the person is in year one, one or two students would be assigned to help such student in terms of washing and doing other vital things for such washing. The school sometimes provides financial assistance to help those with financial problems.
Besides, the parents of those student are encourage to give support to the girls and educate them on why their attentions are needed most. The headmaster is asking stakeholders to help the school with contraceptives like pills and condoms to help lessen the issue.
