The 2023 Budget Statement and Economic Policy on school feeding program
The 2023 Budget Statement and Economic Policy has featured an upward adjustment in the Ghana School Feeding grant.
The feeding grant currently stands at ¢1 per school child.
In May this year, the School Feeding caterers embarked on strike to register their displeasure at the amount which they described as woefully inadequate and demanded an increase in the rate to GHc3.
Presenting the 2023 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta said the grant will be sustained and increased to reflect the current cost of living.

Data from the Ministry of Finance indicates that 3,448,065 pupils in public basic benefitted from the initiative which provides one hot meal daily to students.
He said, “In 2023, the feeding grant will be increased to reflect the current cost of living. The programme will also strengthen domestic production by sourcing locally produced food from the National Buffer Stock company.”
The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) is an initiative of the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) Pillar 3 which seeks to enhance food security and reduce hunger in line with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (MDGs) on hunger, poverty and malnutrition.
