The decision to Sack All Public School Teachers in basic schools is Myopic, shallow and Problematic – Executive Director of IFEST
In every action there is equal and opposite reaction. The Executive Director of Institute of Education Studies(IFEST), Dr. Peter Partey-Anti said, the decision To Sack All Public School Teachers in basic schools is Myopic, shallow and Problematic hence not a concrete solution to restoring Academic excellence.
Dr. Anti added that, the statement made by the professor is actually pregnant in meaning. He believed that as a professor, every confidential and sensitive statement you make should have scientific basics. Your findings should not only be simplistic but rather fuzzible and practically oriented
He added that, all the front liners of the Ministry of Education have to reshuffle their way of doing things in order to meet the standards of education. The problem is not to sack, ask them to reapply. This is unreliable approach and are both labour and capital intensive. This will rather cause financial loss to the state.
Pro. Anti was questioned by Mr. Ben on joy news that, why most teachers refuse to teach during normal classes but move ahead to organize extra classes for the same pupil and take money?
Pro. Anti said, there is no concrete evidence to support that ideology. That behaviour is a criminal offense and one can be prosecuted. He added that, even if that will happen, only few deviant teachers are doing that.
He listed some steps that can be taken to curtail nonperformance at basic schools:
1. Proper supervision, monitoring and evaluation of teaching and learn.
2. Provision of resources especially teaching and learning materials.
3. Releasing capitation grant on time and increase the 15% budgetary allocation for basic schools
4. Students should be repeated if it becomes neccessary.
