Education Access; Two Communities in the Northern Region Refused. to Share A School in the Region. GES to step in. Parents of Japido in Jirapa Refused to share same school facility with Tadando.
Japido and Tadando are neigbhouring communities in the Northern Region. History had it that, the first people to settle in the area were the people of japido. As time kept on travelling, the people of Tadando also came and settle closer to Japido. They lived peacefully until recent times and even practiced crossed marriages.
The funny thing is that, even though the people of Tadando settled lately in the area currently speaking their population out weight people of Japido. They were living without School till government established a primary school for them. During the establishment of the school, both communities wanted the school to be built on their land.
As GES policy goes ‘majority carries the vote’ the school was built at Tadando. The people of Japido also vowed never to allow their wards to attend the school since the school was not built on their land. The children of Japido people need to travel two and half hours to assess education when they had one closer to them which is only ten minutes walk.
The people of Japido message to GES is that, for this issue to be resolved, they should build a JHS on their land thus Japido. If this happens they will allow their wards to school at Tadando.
