The Mystery of what happened to the Body of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
April 1972 at Romanian Hospital where Kwame Nkrumah was diagnosed of prostate cancer. This happened quite a little more longer after he was overthrown in February 1966 by Ghanian Military.
After he was overthrown, Nkrumah disappeared from the political scene battling with his life.
Even though the Romanian doctors did all their best possible to save Dr. Kwame Nkrumah but their efforts yielded fruitless. They realized that he had little to no time to live.
On April 1872 he passed away. As Kwame Nkrumah was in his peace keeping mission to China, The Ghanaian military overthrew him . Nkrumah realized that he was going to die. He made several insightful statements. He said his body is for Africa and not for Ghana.
He added that, His body should be cremated into ashes and the ashes spread on the whole African continent. He was so disappointed that his own people Ghana could not see the vision he has for Africa.
After the Death of Nkrumah, President Sekou Toure of Guinea took Nkrumah’s body to Guinea. Toure and Nkrumah were very Good friends. Toure wanted Nkrumah to be buried in Guinea since his own country has neglected his strong vision.
The Guinean president came to Ghana and told them Nkrumah would not be buried in Ghana. Ghanaians and even the military that overthrown him did not Agree. He therefore gave Ghanaians strong options. He said the military should give back the presidency to Nkrumah’s party or else the body will not be brought to Ghana.
The military saw the over to be harsh. They refused and promised of giving him over 100,000 US dollars. President Toure also refused. Continue the story ..
