DDEP Successful, All Coupons and Maturing Principals will be paid – Govt Assures.

DDEP Successful, All Coupons and Maturing Principals will be paid – Govt Assures. Government has finally hit the 80% beach mark in the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme . The assurance is that, Ghana has finally met the IMF conditionality hence is entitled to the funds.

However, Government is emphatically notifying retirees and individual bond holders who refused to participate in the Debt Restructuring Exchange Programme that, their outstanding coupon payments and maturing principals will be paid in line with all government bond settlements.

This gives assurance, relief and hope to theĀ  pensioners that their monies are safe and that government will surely honour its obligation by paying them their coupons and pricipals in case their bonds mature.

This categorically states that government has given all the bond holders the obligation to either partake in the DDEP or not. Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta metaphorically stated that, the whole exercise was strictly voluntary. Per the constitutional rights given to citizens, No one can be forced to participate in the programme.

Ironically, the economy is at a dull crises and as a country and duty bearers we must fight to sustain the country at all cost, he added.

Official prerogative given for individuals involvement or opting out from the DDEP expired on 10th February 2023, Friday.

Ken Ofori Atta congratulated all the banks and the individuals bondholders who understood the country’s financial state and deem it necessary to partake in the Restructuring programme.

One could recall that, this DDEP embarked by government have not being easy. Pensioners started picketing against their involvement in the Domestic Debt Exchange programme last week. Most retirees with health conditions needed to mention their health issues out publicly before they could gain intervention.

A typical example was the medical doctor with kidney problem magnetizing him to undergo dialysis. The formal Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo also joined the retirees in their picketing journey. She calls government’s decision as “wicked, insensitive and wrong”.

But in all Gabby Otchere who happens to be the cousin of Pre. Akufo Addo in responds to the Chief Justice as being “paranoid’ for picketing against government decision.

Guess what! Sophia Akuffo replied that, she has no business with people who have ‘Thin Brains, The weapon of thin braindead people is Insults”.

So far so good individual bondholders joined the retirees in their picketing journey.

Now that the programme is over, one may be forced to ask ‘will the picketing continue?’ The modalities set by government, does it favour pensioners? What will be their responses? Provide you comments in the comment section below.
