Prof. Opoku Amankwa has endorsed GES attempt to review free SHS to identify parents who have the financial capabilities to pay school fees and the exact amount they should pay, said the source. GES Agreed to Review Free SHS by Using Sim Registration as a Tool.
In a press released, Ghana Education Service made it clearly known that, the resent sim registration exercise would have served as a major antidote and mechanism for easily pinpointing parents who are financially upright to adhere to payment of school fees if they had desired.
GES however, rubbish this speculations by saying it is just a mere propaganda.

My attention has been drawn to a story stating that GES is reviewing free education policy to determine how much parents should pay.
The story emanated from an interview I granted to a host upfront.
The headlines is misleading and does not reflect the impact of the story.
For the avoidance of doubt, GES is not undertaking any review of the free education policy. The free education policy is the sole prerogative of the president and the government of Ghana.
The Ghana Education Service is an Agency and does not formulate or initiate policy review. As an Agency, GES implement policies and programmes on pre- tertiary schools.

His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in his resent speech, assured parents, students and the general public that, free education has come to stay, hence will not be affected by IMF conditionality.
